What Is CISE?
The Chairs for Inclusion in Science and Engineering (CISE) program is a national initiative, funded by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
The regional program CISE-Atlantic is made up of a group of researchers with the goal of expanding inclusion in STEM and the Skilled Trades across the four Atlantic provinces. The CISE-Atlantic Chairholders are Dr. Kevin Hewitt, Dr. Stephanie MacQuarrie and Dr. Svetlana Barkanova.

Bringing STEM to Life: Work-Integrated Learning in Physics in Nova Scotia
A Physics classroom is re-imagined, linking physics concepts with community and local research! Modelled after the successful program at York University’s k2i Academy, this Work-Integrated Learning program connects summer employment, project-based learning and high school Physics course credit achievement for Black and African Nova Scotian High School learners in grades 10 and 11.

STEM Role Models from equity-deserving groups are engaged to foster curiosity for STEM pathways and assist with tying Physics-related curricula to real-world careers. Physics in The Rural Classroom is an upcoming educator resource designed for Grade 7-12 Science and Physics Teachers across Atlantic Canada.
