Dr. Fish’s research focuses on understanding host-pathogen interactions, specifically in the context of virus infections. Her research has spanned basic science discovery to translational research, conducting a number of international clinical trials evaluating the therapeutic potential of interferon- treatment for SARS, Ebola virus and SARS-CoV-2. Dr. Fish leads an international organization, the Beyond Sciences Initiative (BSI), that provides a platform for dialogue among young scholars around the globe. BSI’s mandate is to foster academic and personal growth while empowering young scientific leaders to make lasting and influential change within their local and global communities. Dr. Fish is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiologists, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and was elected Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences, because of her contribution to education and health across Africa. Dr. Fish is the recipient of the Canadian Society of Immunology Cinader Award for outstanding research contributions and the depth and breadth of contributions to the community through training, leadership, collaboration and international activities. Dr. Fish was awarded the prestigious Vivian & Seymour Milstein Award, recognizing her exceptional contributions to interferon and cytokine research that have led to advancements in human health. This Milstein Award represents the pinnacle of scientific achievement in interferon and cytokine research. In 2021 Dr. Fish was appointed to the Order of Canada, for her contributions to improving global health.
