Position: Full Professor at UdeM – Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer

Organization: Université de Montréal

Dr. Philippe Roux is a Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology, a Principal Investigator, and Scientific Director at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) of the Université de Montréal (UdeM). His academic journey commenced at UdeM, where he earned his B.Sc. in Biological Sciences (1995) and M.Sc. in Microbiology and Immunology (1997). He then obtained his Ph.D. in Neurology and Neurosurgery from McGill University in 2002. Dr. Roux’s postdoctoral endeavors as a Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) fellow at Harvard Medical School under the tutelage of John Blenis (2002-2006) set the stage for his return to Montréal. In 2006, he joined the Faculty of Medicine at UdeM as a Professor of Pathology and Cell Biology and was awarded the Canada Research Chair in Cell Signaling and Proteomics (2006-2016). He received a Career Development Award from the HFSP and was also Chercheur-Boursier Sénior (2017-2021) with the Fonds de Recherche du Québec-Santé (FRQS). At the heart of Dr. Roux’s research is the elucidation of cancer cell signaling mechanisms, pivotal for unveiling new therapeutic targets and understanding treatment resistance. His laboratory integrates molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques with advanced proteomics and mouse genetics to unravel the complexities of cancer cell signaling. His research program encompasses three main objectives: 1) Identifying and characterizing novel effectors of the RAS/MAPK signaling pathway, 2) Uncovering novel cancer cell vulnerabilities linked to activated oncogenes, and 3) Developing innovative diagnostic tools and immunotherapeutic targets for cancer.
